Guess what I did today?

Getting Close

amber November 29th, 2006

I kicked ass yesterday with my wordcount, more due to the fact that I spent most of my work day waiting for translations to come in versus actually getting to work, so I sat and wrote almost all day.

How well did I kick ass? Well, I brought my wordcount from 36,342 to 45,510 in a day, between what I did at work and then what I did in the evening before bed. So, that means I have to do 4490 words between today and tomorrow to get through Nano. Barring any unforeseen complications, that is completely doable. Woot!

I do know that this story isn’t going to be complete when I finish Nano, but I will be finishing it. I still really like the story, so I’ve got to see it through to the end. After that, I’m sitting on it until February or March, and we’ll see how well I like it again and start editing if so.

Note To Self -

Blogging while drunk is one thing…

Writing my Nano-novel while drunk is a completely different thing.

Slow but Steady

amber November 7th, 2006

This weekend was horrible for me to actually get any writing in, because it seemed like I was getting a freelance gig every time I turn around. And, while I hate to say it in some ways, a paying gig completely trumps a Nano write-in (which I missed on Saturday).

So, while I’m ugly horribly behind, at least I’m making a point of writing something on the novel, even if it’s a measly 100+/- words every night. I’ll catch up, even if it’s at the last moment. That’s what ended up happening last year, even though I don’t really want anyone else to have to read the crap I wrote last year.

So, we’ll see how it goes. I’ve been getting on one of my coworkers who really wanted to do Nano who’s perched at giving up.

2,263

amber November 2nd, 2006

2,263 was my wordcount from yesterday, which is really good for a first day for me. Now, all I’ve got to do is keep up that momentum.

I caught myself trying to go back and read what I’d just written last night, which is when I decided to quit. I left the end of the first chapter hanging, but I knew that if I kept the file open any longer, I’d start to edit. I can’t white-out the words or anything, because I need to see the rhythm, especially when I’m writing out a section of dialouge. But I’ve got to come up with some kind of deterrant from going back and editing, especially in that sleepy-almost-bedtime area of my life.

Any suggestions?

And So…

amber November 1st, 2006

It Begins.

I recieved my “First Week” email this morning from Chris over at Nano, and I have to say that I gave a little squeal of joy, because that was my official notice that I can finally begin writing this thing clunking around in my head. I went to bed before midnight last night, and I had the Morning Errands from Hell™ to run this morning, so lunch and this evening will be when I can finally sit down and write. Inbetween handing out candy last night, I’ve updated my outline, though it’s truly not complete-complete, it’s enough to get me through the story, finally.

Well, good luck to all y’all! I know I’m going to need it.

PBW’s E-Book Challenge

amber October 31st, 2006

I tried and failed to get myself together for PBW’s E-Book Challenge, but I’ve already downloaded a couple of stories to get me through my lunch break today.

Check it out.

On to the Outline

amber October 23rd, 2006

I’ve actually completed my three leads’ character sheets. While I’m tempted to do up sheets for the secondary characters, I could be working on those until Christmas and completely miss Nano. So, instead I’ll now be centering on doing more than a 4 paragraph write-up for an outline, and actually use YWriter to complete something more intelligible. Who knows, maybe this year I’ll not only complete, but I’ll finish and it will be worthwhile to edit.

Maybe.

Characters are Hard

amber October 18th, 2006

So, I’ve been working on the Character Sheets, and while I am still waffling on the names, I have picked my “actors for inspiration”.

Cassandra York - Rachel Weisz (The Mummy)
David Travers - David Tennant (10th Doctor Who)
Michael Andrews - Christain Bale (American Psycho)

See, I need someone’s face in my head, so I can put a voice to it, so I usually “cast” my book just so I can get at least beyond a primordial blob in my brain. It is amusing that I’ve picked Brit/Scot actors all for a story that I’m tenatively putting on St. Simons Island, GA.

And anyway, this has given me an excuse to surf for gratuitous shots of Mr. Tennant and Mr. Bale, either of which float my boat. :)

Take a Flyer

amber October 12th, 2006

I went to my workplace’s Writing Group today, and handed out flyers for Nanowrimo. I actually got a couple of people really interested in it, which makes me happy. Since I’m a contractor at the college, with only over a week to go, I would like to keep up going to the meetings, but I don’t know how viable that will be once the contract is up.

Off to try and work up the semblance of an outline for my novel.
